Insurance Reimbursement Information

The Alpha-Stim is classified by the FDA as a TENS unit. It is billed with a procedure code of E0730. The guideline for insurance payment of a TENS unit is a Chronic Pain diagnosis.

FDA Definition of Chronic Pain:

• Pain that has lasted greater than 3 months
• Other treatments have not proven effective in alleviating the patient’s pain
• Etiology of pain must be a type that is accepted as medically necessary for TENS therapy (does not include headache, TMJ, stomach or pelvic pain). Examples:
  • Low Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Shoulder Pain
