A nondrug innovation being used with success, too, is cranial electrotherapy stimulation, sold by prescriptions as Alpha-Stim. How it works: Two small electrodes are clipped to either ear, and a weak electrical impulse is sent to the brain, causing pain messages to short-circuit. In a survey of 363 fibromyalgia sufferers who tried the treatment, 91% reported a 25% improvement in their condition after 3 weeks.
